Epoxy resin possesses superior physical, mechanical, and electrical insulation properties, excellent adhesion to various materials, and flexible application processes that other thermosetting plastics lack. Therefore, it can be used to make coatings, composite materials, castings, adhesives, molding materials, and injection molding materials, finding wide application in various sectors of the national economy.

Epoxy resin accounts for a significant proportion of coating applications, producing a variety of products with distinct characteristics and uses. Its common characteristics include:

(1) Excellent chemical resistance, especially alkali resistance;

(2) Strong film adhesion, particularly to metals

(3) Good heat resistance and electrical insulation;

(4) Good color retention.

Except for poor adhesion to non-polar plastics such as polyolefins, epoxy resin exhibits excellent adhesion to various metal materials such as aluminum, steel, iron, and copper; non-metallic materials such as glass, wood, and concrete; and thermosetting plastics such as phenolic, amino, and unsaturated polyesters, hence its nickname "universal adhesive." Epoxy adhesives are an important type of structural adhesive.

Due to the many unique advantages of epoxy resins, such as high insulation performance, high structural strength, and good sealing performance, they have been widely used in the insulation and encapsulation of high and low voltage electrical appliances, motors, and electronic components, and their development is rapid. They are mainly used for

(1) Casting of insulating encapsulation components for electrical appliances and motors

(2) Widely used for potting insulation of devices containing electronic components and circuits

(3) Electronic-grade epoxy molding compounds for the encapsulation of semiconductor components

(4) Epoxy laminates are widely used in the electronics and electrical appliance fields.

Epoxy engineering plastics mainly include epoxy molding compounds and epoxy laminates used for high-pressure molding, as well as epoxy foam plastics. Epoxy engineering plastics can also be considered a broad category of epoxy composite materials. Epoxy composite materials mainly include epoxy fiberglass (general-purpose composite material) and epoxy structural composite materials, such as pultruded epoxy profiles, filament-wound hollow rotating body products, and high-performance composite materials. Epoxy composite materials are important structural and functional materials in high-tech fields such as chemical engineering, aerospace, and military industries.
